Mike Harmon knows he's fortunate to be alive. Only a miracle kept him from serious injury-any injury for that matter-during a spectacular crash while practicing for the August Busch Series race at Bristol.
Harmon's Monte Carlo tore through a gate entrance on the outside wall and was literally cut in half. Johnny Sauter then plowed into the wreckage, knocking Harmon's race engine down the track, but fortunately missing the driver. Amazingly, Harmon was on his feet even before Sauter could be pulled from his burning machine.
Harmon took it all in stride saying, "Well, you have to know how to wreck 'em as well as you know how to drive 'em."
