The competition during Speedweeks won't be limited to Daytona International Speedway. Instead, some of the fiercest battles will take place February 12-14 at Daytona's Ocean Center, home to this year's Stock Car Racing FanFest.
The wrenches will be smoking when the Engine Builder Contest gets underway. Watch the people who power racing's top teams battle the clock and each other to see who can assemble and start a race engine the fastest. The roar of the engines is always a crowd pleaser.
Next up, the Pit Crew Challenge will see just who can service a stock car the fastest. With thousands of dollars at stake for the winner, there will be no holding back. Last year, the crew for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Oreo-sponsored Busch Series team, the last crew to compete, won the top prize.
Speaking of Junior, you'll find him at the Stock Car Racing FanFest, complements of Chevrolet, signing autographs. Many other top drivers are scheduled to appear for autograph sessions as well.
You can see why you need to be at this event, whether you're simply a fan of the sport or a competitor yourself. Here are some of the other attractions you can plan on seeing at the Stock Car Racing FanFest:
* The Circle Track Garage, aimed at the hard-core industry pros, will feature more than 100 oval track part manufacturers and exhibitors. Automotive parts giveaways are scheduled for each day, including a GM race engine. The hottest new products will be on display, and seminars will help you become a better racer.
* Fans will find plenty of die-cast model cars and racing collectibles. Hot Wheels will be sponsoring slot-car games for the children.
* If you're into the outdoors, check out the ATV display and take a demo ride. Watch 4x4 experts equip a truck on-site and prepare it for off-road action. Bait your hook and try to reel in a specially tagged fish to win tickets to an upcoming NASCAR race.
* Hot Rod TV will be on hand for a live studio broadcast.
