The 2004 Daytona Beach Motorsports Expo, presented by Chevrolet, continued the tradition of providing a venue for racers and exhibitors to come together during Daytona Speedweeks.
Attendance for the annual event increased for the second consecutive year, with this year's Expo drawing over 20,000 people.
"We decided to refocus the show back to its roots, toward the Saturday night racer and race team," said Greg Nivens, president of Moorea Marketing, the show's promoter. "The excitement and the enthusiasm could be felt on the show floor. The buzz was all about the hottest new innovations for racers in 2004."
Enthusiasts were treated to a variety of displays and presentations, with Chevrolet providing cars for exhibits both inside and outside Daytona Beach's Ocean Center. Clevite sponsored an engine-building contest and treated attendees to several seminars on engine performance and engine components.
Two $3,000 sponsorships were given away during the Expo. The Racer Sponsorship Program gives away money and equipment donated by exhibitors. Pro-Blend Motorsports and Intercomp each donated items this year.
Matt Zenisky from Holyoke, Massachusetts, and Ray Tipton of McGaleysville, Virginia, were the winners of the sponsorships. Zenisky purchased equipment from several exhibitors, including Wilwood Engineering, Racing Electronics, Appleton, Scogin Enterprises, Finish Line Racewear, JR Motorsports, and UB Machine. Tipton, meanwhile, headed straight to the trailer and transport displays and purchased a Wells Cargo trailer for his karts.
The Daytona Beach Motorsports Expo expects that $20,000 will be given away at next year's event-providing yet another reason why the Expo is the place to be during Daytona Speedweeks.
