MOVING ON UP

Justin Woller, 20, drove this good-looking '91 Pontiac Trans Am in the Street Stock division at State Park Speedway in his hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin. In 2002, his fourth year in the Street Stock division, Justin won the point championship. He won a total of seven features during the year, including a streak of five consecutive feature wins. He also set fast time ten times during the season. For the 2003 season, Justin purchased a Limited Late Model and will compete in that division.

SPIRIT OF 76

Owner Peter Aubin (left) and driver Todd Dean (right) compete in the Late Model division at Thompson (Connecticut) International Speedway. Both are from Danielson, Connecticut. They build their own cars and engines, and fabricate many of the needed parts. In 2001, the rookie season for 76 Racing, they ran a partial schedule and finished 12th in points. They ran the entire 2002 season and improved to tenth in points. This season they've built a new car and are gunning for the championship.

FATHER AND SON

John Maitlen (No. 8) and his son Chuck Maitlen (No. 5), both of Richmond, Indiana, race at tracks in Indiana and Ohio. This season, John is running for "Rookie of the Year" in the Super Truck Series. Chuck, a veteran of go-carts, Allison Legacy cars, and Super Trucks, is trying his hand in the Championship Auto Racing Series in his Dodge Intrepid. Chuck's ride has to be one of the sharpest looking race cars on the planet.

FAST LIKE DAD

Harvey Guerra Jr., a 23-year-old racer from Carlsbad, New Mexico, poses with the '79 Trans Am Street Stock he races at Carlsbad Speedway. He's been around race cars his entire life. Harvey's father raced on the Carlsbad dirt track for 23 years. Harvey took over the racing duties in 1995 when illness left his father unable to race. In the 2002 season he won 12 feature races and the point championship. No wonder he was eager to get racing again in 2003.
