The rest of the week, I was busy doing this and that around the shop and at home. The next week, we flew to Phoenix. The first morning there, we got up at about 4:30 and for three hours did radio shows all across the country. We had to get up that early because of the time difference.
The next morning, we were on television at 6:30 all across the country for morning shows. Most all of this was for STP, which came out with a new product that I'm helping to promote.
This was all personal services work and had nothing to do with Petty Enterprises. But what happens is that General Mills calls, for example, and wants to do a photo shoot in Kansas. Because it's one of our sponsors, we gotta go. By the time we get back, Georgia Pacific, another sponsor, may be calling and asking us to bring a race car and come to Atlanta for another photo shoot.
You just never know, but one thing you do know is that it all keeps you busy, and there is nothing typical about it.
I work for eight major companies and about 12 or 15 companies in all. That keeps me pretty busy.
These major companies may have several products they want us to promote, so we have to pick and choose what we do. Right after the 9-11 disaster in New York, all this type of work just stopped completely. Now it is back full blast and going wide open.
So, you see, it's difficult for me to say I've had a typical day. But, the more I think about it, the more satisfied I am that a typical week might turn out to be like a vacation for me. I think I'll try that one of these weeks. Of course, it may take a lot of planning to accomplish that.
