35 Years AgoRichard Petty has a record-shattering season in 1967, winning 27 times, garnering 10 straight victories at one point, and claiming 15 checkered flags after starting from the pole. All are Winston Cup records.

25 Years AgoIn 1977 Cale Yarborough wins the second of his three Winston Cup titles while driving for car owner Junior Johnson and becomes the first driver to earn 5,000 points in a season.

8 Years AgoIndianapolis Motor Speedway hosts its first stock car race when NASCAR's Winston Cup Series visits the track on August 6, 1994.
