Wythe Raceway, nestled in the mountains of Southwestern VA will once again be the ‘host’ for this incredible event. 2007 saw some of the most incredible racing ever witnessed. There were only two cautions in the 75 lap Main event, where local driver Kenny Peeples won the coveted Grand Prize of $10,000. This race has become a favorite of race team,s as it pays $10,000 to win, and $500 just to make the 32 car main event. Therefore it really gives everyone a chance to make the race. This year there will also be a ‘non qualifiers’ main after the $10,000 to win feature event. The event has become what is known in the industry as a ‘staple event’. The cars keep getting better every year and the crowds have been growing as well. Last year was living proof as the race format was 75 laps with a pit stop on the front straight-away in front of the fans on lap 40. The racing had been so incredible last year, fans actually stood up and clapped and cheered during the pit stop break. “I have never seen anything like it” said track owner Fred Brown. “The fans were excited and we were very proud to see that. It was pretty amazing”. No doubt things got exciting during the 2007 event. Randy Weaver looked like the favorite for the weekend. Then he had a flat early on. Kenny Peeples, Shanon Buckingham, William Thomas. Lee Cooper and others all looked like they had a shot at the win at some point during the race. After making adjustments during the pit stop, Buckingham went backwards once the race resumed having made a wrong choice. Cooper began a march to the front, but Thomas seemed as though he was on a mission when all of a sudden his driveshaft broke coming off of turn two. Until then, he seemed like he might challenge Peeples for the win. Peeples eventually went on to win the 2007 installment of the Pro Late Model Nationals taking home the $10,000 first place prize. $10,000 to win- $500 to start- starting 32 cars Wythe Raceway, Rural Rretreat VA August 29th open practice starts 7:00 until ?? A buddy of mine drives a Lexus LE (not quite a stock car, but nonetheless FAST) and was pulled over going 130mph. He thought for sure he'd be sent to jail. Lucky for him it was late and there were no other cars around, so the cop was cool and gave him a speeding ticket for going 15 miles over the speed limit. The ticket arrived at his house with a tag of $450! He called TicketBust, a service that fights traffic tickets and a few weeks later he got a notice from the court: NOT GUILTY. So cool, I'm sharing the service all over the place. I like to drive, nice to know I don't have to worry about a lifetime of high insurance bills if I get a ticket. Milwaukee, WI – August 4, 2008 - Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling of Southeast Wisconsin owner Dan Druml announced today that his company has joined NASCAR racing as primary sponsor for an up-and-coming team. According to Druml, his company will sponsor the Wisconsin-based team of driver Derek Thorn and the Paul Davis Restoration/ALS Ford in the NASCAR Camping World Series East. The Paul Davis Restoration/ALS Ford team is owned by Shawn Keep and managed by Scott Pfeiffer who is also the founder of “Racin’ for a Cure”, a Sun Prairie, WI -based non-profit organization that raises funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a degenerative disease often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease”. “Providing support to Scott and ALS is at the heart of our core values as a company and falls in line with the other organizations we support through the Paul Davis Charitable Foundation. We are pleased to add ‘Racin’ for a Cure’ to our list of beneficiaries that include the Ronald McDonald House and the Firefighter Combat Challenge,” said Druml. During a successful 2007 race season Pfeiffer was diagnosed with ALS. “It was devastating to say the least,” said Pfeiffer. We decided to put together a business plan to raise awareness and funds for another team and ALS research. Without start up money to fund any races, I turned to longtime friend and successful Wisconsin businessman Shawn Keep,” he said. “After I explained the situation to Shawn and presented our business plan, he had the perfect answer, ‘now we have a reason to race’,” said Pfeiffer. Recently, Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling of Southeast Wisconsin helped Pfeiffer, 42, and his cause-related organization with donated home remodeling and restorations as part of the company’s annual Paul Davis Restoring America property improvement initiative. Thorn and Keep met with Druml during the renovation project at Scott’s home, which included construction of accessible areas and ramps in the house and yard. “We immediately saw an opportunity to team with Paul Davis Restoration to promote an industry leading, service oriented company by partnering with our team. We think it’s a great partnership, and one we can build on. We’re looking at our race schedule this year as a way to help build a solid foundation in Racin’ for a Cure,” Thorn said. “Our goal is simple,” said Pfeiffer. “We are here to raise awareness and research funds for an awful disease called ALS. Right now, there is no cure for ALS and every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with the disease and every 90 minutes someone dies from it. I know there probably won't be a cure for the disease in my lifetime, but this is for all of the families to follow that are affected by ALS,” he said. “We are excited to have Paul Davis Restoration partnered with ‘Racin' for a Cure’, and hope to build on this relationship for the future. I would like to thank Paul Davis Restoration for all that they have done,” said Pfeiffer. According to Pfeiffer, the team has a bright future with a promising young driver. Derrick Thorn began racing go-carts as a youngster in California and advanced through the ranks. While in California, Thorn and Pfeiffer met and became close friends. Now as Thorn’s general manager, Pfeiffer sees Thorn as a leading 2008 rookie in one of NASCAR’s most popular driver development series, the NASCAR Camping World Series East. NASCAR national series teams with development programs in the NASCAR Camping World Series East include Joe Gibbs Racing, Dale Earnhardt, Inc., Richard Childress Racing and Ken Schrader Racing. The team recently finished fifth at the Strutmasters.com 150, which was presented by General Dollar at Music City Motorplex, Tennessee State Fairgrounds. The Nashville race was broadcast on July 30 on SPEED Channel. The series will run through Sept. 28 and will be televised live on HDNET with replays on SPEED Channel. (July-21) The FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeast Touring Series moves to Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA this Saturday, July 26. Many regard the high banked ½ mile facility nestled in the picturesque southwest Virginia Mountains, as one of the finest facilities on the east coast. In what is becoming increasingly rare in today’s competitive marketplace, track owner Fred Brown constantly evaluates his facility in an effort to provide an enjoyable experience for everyone who competes in, or attends an event. That attention to detail is reflected on both sides of the fence; from the many amenities for race fans, to the meticulous track preparation. With multiple racing grooves, and banking 22 degrees in turns 1&2 and 26 degrees in turns 3&4, Wythe Raceway has hosted some of the most competitive events the FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeastern Series has seen. Perhaps more important then the $2000.00 that will go to the winner Saturday night, will be the opportunity this provides each team to tune up for Labor Day weekends $10,000.00 to win PRO LATE MODEL NATIONALS that will be held at Wythe Raceway as well. As the summer enters into its second half, FASTRAK Series drivers are closely watching the FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeastern Touring Series points standings where the top three positions could all change with the outcome of just one event. FASTRAK City Chevrolet Weekly Racing Division points will be awarded as well. With so much going on under the FASTRAK banner, the FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeast Touring Series is currently in the midst of what many consider the nation’s longest streak of different winners in any nationally recognized touring series. Will Wythe Raceway produce the 11th different winner in as many races? With so much at stake at each and every event, expect to see such competitors as John Llewellyn of Knoxville, TN, Lee Cooper of Greer, SC, Ron Parker of Lawndale, NC, along with Weaverville, NC’s Vic Chandler and local favorites Brandon Umbereger from Rural Retreat, Phil Gann of Mayodan, NC and Troutdale’s Randy Taylor, and many more. Other divisions racing Saturday Night will be the Cook’s Clean Center Super Streets, the Pepsi Hornets, Open Wheel Modifieds, Pro Mini’s and the U-Cars The pits are slated to open at 4 p.m. The grandstands will open at 5 p.m. Qualifying will determine the top-12 starters for the FASTRAK Series Modern Chevrolet Touring Series main event, while the remaining positions will be filled through heat races and a last chance consolation race. The starting positions of the top-6 qualifiers will be determined by a redraw prior to the night’s headlining featured event. Additional events will include an autograph session with FASTRAK Series drivers in the Pavilion Area located behind the concessions building, and then later, fireworks will briefly fill the sky above the raceway as the starting field passes below in the ever popular FASTRAK Series 4 wide salute to the fans. Adult grandstand admission is just $15.00. Be sure to look for $5.00 off admission Discount Coupons available at retailers and convenience stores throughout the area. Admission for children ages 6–11 is just $2.00. Prelims are set to begin at around 7:30 with racing action set to begin immediately after. There is probably no better venue then Wythe Raceway for such a pivotal night of racing in the FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeast Touring Series For more information: Wythe Raceway (276)223-9804 www.wytheraceway.com FASTRAK Racing Series (678)935-7304 www.fastrakracing.com

Owen Osteen of Woodruff S.C. scored a popular win here tonight becoming the 10th different winner in the last 10 events on the FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeastern Touring Series. In addition to taking home the winners check of $2000.00, Osteen also collected valuable points in the FASTRAK City Chevrolet Weekly Racing Division as well. With what is beginning to be regarded as perhaps the longest streak of different winners of any major racing series in the country, all eyes will be fixed on Rural Retreat, VA’s Wythe Raceway July 26th, site of the next event on the FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeastern Touring Series schedule. Because of the “level playing field” environment FASTRAK assures all competitors, it is conceivable to believe the current streak could remain intact for the remainder of the points paying events on the schedule leading up to FASTRAK’S $250,000 GRAND NATIONALS set to begin October 3. Tonight though, it was all Osteen. During practice, Osteen was quickest and went on to grab the pole, circling the 4/10 mile oval in 19.246 seconds. Ray Dockery of Marshville, NC was second fastest followed by Concord, NC’s Matt Long, Timbo Mangum of Lancaster, SC., current FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeastern Touring Series point leader Lee Cooper of Greer, SC., followed by Ron Parker of Lawndale NC who trails Cooper in Southeast Touring Series points going into tonight’s 40 lap Main Event. Upon completion of qualifying, a redraw of the top 6 qualifiers in I-77’s Victory Lane, would set the field. Timbo Mangum would once again lead the field to the green flag for the second FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeast Touring Series event in a row, followed by Osteen, Dockery, Lee Cooper, Long and Ron Parker. Next up, in traditional FASTRAK fashion where fans interact with drivers, Ron Parker and Matt Long went into the main grandstand with 50 pounds of candy that each donated for this event. As each driver crossed the track into the grandstands, both were immediately greeted by scores of fans as they tried to make their way to the top of the grandstands where they eventually threw candy down to the waiting sea of children below, behind the main grandstand. Parker and Long also supplied candy for the children assembled in the infield as well. Ms. Regina Funderburk of Great Falls, SC performed a stunning and moving rendition of our National Anthem prior to the evenings Main Events. With virtually everyone in the grandstands on their feet, the always enthusiastic I-77 Speedway crowd watched, as Mangum and Osteen would lead the field to the green flag in the night’s featured FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeastern Touring Series event. Osteen quickly jumped out in front of Mangum as the field headed into turn one on the opening lap. As Osteen led the charge down the back stretch, Mangum drove deep into turn three getting alongside Osteen mid way through the corner. As Osteen and Mangum exited turn four, they touched briefly before Osteen finally cleared the determined Mangum at the start finish line completing lap one. Uncharacteristic of I-77 Speedway, in the events fifth lap, it was apparent that only one groove could be established as Cooper, John Llewellyn and Brandon Umberger quickly discovered, as each driver experimented with different lines around the track, but quickly fell back in line in what looked like a 12 car freight train. At the ten lap mark, Osteen was in command with Mangum tucked in closely behind, followed by Ray Dockery, Matt Long, Lee Cooper, Ron Parker and Ronnie Mosley. Even with just one groove to work with, the field remained tight. A large portion of the fans in attendance were still on their feet As the laps clicked off, it became apparent that with single file conditions, contact or a mistake could end up determining the outcome of the event. In the events 15th lap, two battles were beginning to take shape. Cooper began pressuring Long for the fourth spot, and just behind them, Mosley and Parker were engaged in a spirited battle of their own for the fifth spot. Both of these battles provided the best racing of the night to this point as Cooper and Long raced down the back stretch side by side on numerous occasions. As difficult as making a clean pass had been, both Long and Cooper gave each other plenty of racing room. As determined as each driver was, contact was not going to decide it. On lap 17, Cooper drove deep into turn one managing to get to Longs inside. Midway through the corner, Cooper began to lose the back of his car and in a display good sportsmanship; Cooper hesitated in getting back into the gas so as not to run into Long. With his momentum slowed, Cooper would briefly become part of the Parker and Mosley battle that had been heating up over the last 3 laps. On lap 20, Colt Smith of Woodruff, SC., began to slow exiting turn two. Smith would take his car to the pits where overheating would end his night. At the head of the field, Osteen had moved out to a six car length advantage over Mangum by the races 21st circuit, but Mangum was beginning to erase Osteen’s lead. Behind the leaders, Parker and Mosley found themselves once again in a dead heat for the sixth spot. On six occasions, Parker and Mosley had been side by side. In front of them, Cooper had pulled away and caught back up with Long to renew their battle for the fourth position. Meanwhile, Mangum could close the gap entering the corners at either end of the speedway, but Osteen clearly had the advantage on the straight-aways. As Mangum tried to find a quicker way around the track, Dockery was consistently chipping away at the advantage Mangum had enjoyed over the third place Dockery. Across the stripe completing lap 23, Osteen had jumped out to a three second lead as Mangum had fallen into the clutches of the hard charging Dockery. It was no longer a question of could Dockery pass Mangum, but when. Exiting turn two headed down the back stretch, Mangum hand-grenaded his engine. Running through the oil his expired motor deposited onto the track surface, Mangum spun entering turn three, backing his car into the wall bring out the nights first caution To underscore how important points have become at this stage of the season, experiencing bad luck in two consecutive events, may have compromised the South Carolina native’s quest for the FASTRAK Series City Chevrolet Weekly Racing Division National Championship With 24 laps in the books, Osteen would lead the field back to green ahead of Dockery, Long, Cooper, Parker and Mosley. Before completing the lap, the hotly contested battle between Parker and Mosley through-out the entire race, reached the next level as contact between the two in turn four brought out the events second caution. While both were able to continue, Parker brought his car into the pits to the attention of his crew. With no visible damage, Parker rejoined the field but was relegated to the rear of the field on the restart After just two laps of caution, Osteen led the field back to the restart, jumping out to a two car length lead going into turn one ahead of Dockery, Long, Cooper, and Ross Puckett who had quietly moved up into the fifth position. In the handful of laps remaining, Osteen seemed to experience difficulty keeping his car down low on his exit from turn four, allowing Dockery to close the gap. Dockery was relentless in turns three and four where something as thin as a sheet of paper probably wouldn’t fit between the two cars. But, as had been the case all night, Osteen dominated on the straight-aways. With three laps left in the contest, Osteen and Dockery were nose to tail going into turns one and two, suddenly, Osteen bobbled. With Dockery tucked in so closely behind, the slip worked to Osteen’s advantage, as the only thing Dockery could do was lift, allowing Osteen to get a better jump on the exit of turn two. With almost everyone in attendance on their feet, Osteen and Dockery were still nose to tail as they took the white flag. Entering turns one and two for the last time, Dockery was content to stay tucked in behind Osteen at this end of the speedway opting instead to mount his challenge in turns three and four where he had been so strong in the closing laps Driving deep into turn three, Dockery was able to get a fender inside of Osteen on the exit of turn four, but Osteen had been the dominant car all night on the straight-aways and powered his car across the line first taking the win and becoming the 10th different winner in the last 10 events on the FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeastern Touring series. With a payout in excess of $115,000 in July and August, the level of competition continues to intensify with each event. Clearly, with $115,000 up for grabs, it’s no coincidence why large crowds continue to turn out for FASTRAK events where the level of competition is so intense; an occasional caution flag not only allows the drivers to catch their breath, but the fans as well. Additionally, the FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Southeast Touring Series has produced 9 different winners in the last 9 events. In the FASTRAK Series $115,000 DAYS OF SUMMER, race events are producing multiple position changes lap after lap, and more recently, in excess of 30 challenges for the top spot in a single event. In events already held this summer combined with the FASTRAK Series $115,000 DAYS OF SUMMER throughout July and August, over 125 different race team from 10 states will have entered FASTRAK Modern Chevrolet Touring Series events in an effort to claim a share of one of the country’s largest short track touring series overall payouts. Amazingly, just after the conclusion of the FASTRAK Series $115,000 DAYS OF SUMMER, less then thirty days will pass before FASTRAKS’ $250,000 Grand Nationals are set to begin At the mid-way point of the summer, among the events remaining on the FASTRAK Touring Series schedule are stops at the storied Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH on August 9, for the “The GM Performance Parts 40” where the winner will bank $5000.00. Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA will be the home of the “Pro Late Model Nationals” August 29-31 where the winner will collect an impressive $10,000.00. If the large crowds and level of competition already seen this summer are any indication, the FASTRAK Series $115,000 DAYS OF SUMMER could produce a level of competition race fans will still be talking about in February. Dear Friends, It's been a tough decision I have had to make. Right now, due to some other commitments, I am not able to make all the races at Southside Speedway this year. For this season, this is the end of the Starstruck Report. I know I could still write on the weeks I do make the races, however, with the points races coming to a head, it's harder to write the quality column I expect the Starstruck report to be. In the last few years, I always enjoyed watching the points race unfold and speculate on who was going to hold the trophy as track champion at the end of the year. As I write to a close, I want to say thank you to the drivers for all the stories they have shared with me up to this point. I look forward to starting over next year and continuing the growth this column has had. I have noticed a huge growth in readers. I plan on growing this even more next season and I also have a few other ideas in the works for next season. So as I come to a close, let me give a shout out to all the divisions for all they do to entertain us at Southside Speedway each year. Modifieds: I see a brighter future ahead for this division. This week, we had a car count of 18. This is the largest car count we have had for this division in quite a few years. If this division grows, we can really have some points race drama in the next few years. I look forward to watching it. Late Model Sportsmen: This has truly been a competitive year for this division. It has become more of a division to watch now with the good mix of veterans and young drivers all on the track at the same time. This would be the hardest race for me to predict at this point of the season. Grand Stock: What can I say that hasn't already been said about these drivers. While this is considered a second tier division to the featured divisions, Modifieds and Late Model sportsmen, they have gained the respect of many of the tracks fans. Case in point, the fans choose them as the opening race for the night Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch appeared at the track. These drivers always have a very consistent car count and a competive race. Ucar: Here is another division that has grown during my time covering the races. These cars are very similar to the old mini stock cars. Like Grand Stock, they have a consistent car count and this is one division that will go three wide. This points race could have the first rookie or female track champion this year. While I may not be covering, I think this is the story of the year. Macka: These guys put on a show and races are often won on the last lap in this division. The wings on these cars make the cars draft more than any other division at Southside Speedway. Street Stock: This division usually has 30 cars running each week. The real stories that can develop is to see who ends up with a bigger team in the future. Many future track champions has come out of this division. Legends: I am glad you will be racing on the schedule twice this year and I don't think it should have been removed when the schedule was first written. My message to these drivers, put on a great show those races and really make the fans yell for more. Track staff and officials: A 50 year anniversary or Golden Anniversary is a great milestone to make. I know it's not always been easy to keep things running but we would like to see the century mark one day. Thank you for all the hard work you do to make sure we have racing there every Friday night during the summer months. As I close, I want to leave you with some thoughts. Southside has had it's history as a track and for me, it's not always the racing that has made Southside Speedway exciting for me. I always found the personalities behind those cars and the crews what makes things interesting. I have been very lucky to get to know alot of the drivers and crews over the years and plan on enjoying it more when the Starstruck Report resumes next season. It will be my goal to try to bring those personalities to you each week as well as the race recap. So, all in all, it's been a great ride and I plan on growing the Starstruck report more next year when I resume the column. My instincts are telling me this is only a passing phase and next year will be my year. I can't thank any of you enough for the joy you have brought me by reading my words over time. As always, you can write me at larrystarstruck@yahoo.com. I would love to hear from you whether the column is active or not. In closing, May God bless all of you and as I always say, I will see you at the races. *Larry Starstruck*

It was Friday the 13th at the old Speedway and weatherwise a very comfortable night to watch racing. With the date, you wondered if it would truly be an unlucky night for one or more of the drivers. As always, I will let you decide that as you read the results. Let's go to the action. Late Model Sportsman: The night started with the LMS division. The last few races, we had been seeing them run twin 50's and tonite was more of a treat going a full 100 laps straight. I think this may be the format the rest of the year or atleast it should be. Doug Godsey (05) ran the fastest lap in qualifying. However, we inverted the top 7 of the race again and Bugs Hairfield (04) would start the race on the pole. The first start was called back. It appeared that Charles Lamb (5) had some damage. Note: This car is usually driven by Jason Pittman and the PA announcer also thought it was Pittman in the car. The second restart was a little wild. Lap 3, Chris Hopkins (43) saw the blackflag for a passenger side fender hanging which would end up being served under caution. J B Poates (88) had some contact with Brandon Hendrick (55) in the front stretch. Brad Davis (18) would go in the pits during this caution. Lap 5, Alan Purser (17) and Bubba Hubbard (14) wreck around turn two. Greg Fernandez (02) was almost involved. Hubbard (14) had the most damage with the hood in. Poates (88) would find himself in the pits during this caution. Lap 11, Hubbard (14) would go in the pits. Lap 15, Roy Hendrick (39) takes the lead from Bugs Hairfield (04). Lap 23 saw a caution called for an incident in turn 2. Lap 29, J B Poates (88) hit very hard in turn 2 but continued in the race. Brad Davis (18) was in the pits during this caution. Lap 30, David Mooney (13) hit the wall very hard in turn 1 and would not return to the race. Lap 34 had one of the hard hits of the night when Doug Godsey (05) and J B Poates (88) made contact and Poates (88) hit very hard in the front stretch wall. Sonny Allen (20) would retire from the race during this caution. Lap 61 saw Bugs Hairfield (04) retire from the race and Charles Lamb (5) was also in the pits. Lap 69, Doug Godsey (05) makes contact with Russ Ellis (6) in turn 1. Godsey would retire from the race. After the race, Godsey (05) said he had brake failure. Lap 70, Jeff Oakley retires from the race and as he does, Wayne Patterson (16) hits the wall hard in turn 3. Lap 73 saw Brad Davis (18) return to the pits. The race would stay clean and green after this. Roy Hendrick (39) would make the trip to victory lane holding off a very strong challenge from Shane Lockhart (11). Eddie Johnson (59) would be DQed in this race for having his car too light. Here is the official finishing order. 1. Roy Hendrick #39 2. Shayne Lockhart #11 3. Chris Hopkins #43 4. Chris Dodson #0 5. Greg Fernandez #02 6. Rob Jenkins #89 7. Alan Purser #17 8. J. B. Poates #88 9. Russ Ellis #6 10. Brandon Hendrick #55 11. Wayne Patterson #16 12. Brad Davis #18 13. Jeff Oakley #15 14. Bubba Hubbard #14 15. Doug Godsey #05 16. Bugs Hairfield #04 17. Charles Lamb #5 18. Sonny Allen #20 19. David Mooney #13 20. Eddie Johnson #59 (DQ) Street Stock: For a street stock race, this was very clean and green. Only one caution was called. James Loving (97) started this race on the pole. Lap 2, John Foster (73) was blackflagged for jumping the restart. He also had complaints on the official's channel of passing below the rumble strips. Lap 6, Ethan Ayers (69) was off pace. No caution was called. Keep in mind, in this division, you almost have to have a car blocking the track to get one called. Lap 11, O K Wilson (32) and Melvin Brown (63) were all given blackflags. Lap 17, John Kantzler (00) was in the pits. He had his car smoking pretty bad. Lap 27, Robbie Groome (79) was blackflagged for a flat tire. Lap 32 brought out the first and only caution when Herbert LaRue (26) hit hard in turn 1. The cleanup got extensive with fluid so a red flag was shown at lap 36. Lap 38, the race restarted. Keep in mind, caution laps count in this division. Lap 39, Mike Ganoe (82) spins and it appeared at first some contact with Larry Lamb (71). However, Lamb (71) had no damage to his car and mentioned after the race that eh wouldn't race Ganoe (82) like that. Lap 42, Mike Harris (30) and Michael Sutphin (25) had contact in turn 2 and no caution was called. James Loving (97) would win this race leading flag to flag. Here is the official finishing order. 1. James Loving #97 2. Larry Lamb #71 3. Dan Crate #1 4. Mike Ganoe #82 5. Wayne Groome #08 6. Alex Ayers #96 7. Kevin Lee #35 8. Kevin Brown #53 9. Ricky Statler #92 10. Brian Smith #06 11. Timmy Tiblis #72 12. James Groome #31 13. Kyle Chittum #12 14. Justin Dunkum #13 15. Bobby Corbitt #58 16. Michael Sutphin #25 17. Chris Bryant #6 18. Brad Diggs #95 19. John Foster, Jr. #73 20. Travis Nicely #911 21. Patrick Seheneuk #74 22. James Smith #28 23. Jeff Arnett #07 24. Mike Harris #30 25. O. K. Wilson #32 26. Bobbie Groome #79 27. Herbert LaRue #26 28. John Kantzler #00 29. Melvin Brown #63 30. Ethan Ayers #69 Ucar: This division finished off the racing program that evening. George Dickson (19) started the race in the pits. Lap 4, the caution came out with Daniel Thomas (99) hitting in turn 3. Will Collins (0) would go in the pits during this caution. Lap 6, Steve Thomas (7) and David Gonce (09) get together in turn 1 bringing out a caution. Will Collins (0) and David Kernn (78) make contact wtih them as well. They had no where to go. Billy Enroughty was blackflagged during this caution. Lap 7, Michael Hall (911) almost spins in turn 2, no caution. Lap 12, caution came out as Butch Mixell (22) was off the pace. Lap 14, Damon Fender (13) makes contact with Renna Marchetti IV (01) and they almost spin, no caution. Good save by both drivers. George Dickson (19) would hold on to win this race. David Gonce (09) spun in the front stretch right after being shown the caution flag. Here is the official finishing order. 1. George Dickson #19 2. Frank Silva #91 3. Renno Marchetti IV #01 4. Lindsay Bryant #81 5. Michael Hall #9 6. Mike Chapman #18 7. Mike Shiflett #12 8. Daniel Thomas #99 9. Billy Enroughty #90 10. Damon Fender #13 11. Joshua Thomas #72 12. Lauren Edgerton #24 13. Steve Thomas #7 14. Will collins #0 15. David Gonce #09 16. Ronnie Martin #21 17. Jordan Bell #11 18. Butch Mixell #22 19. Charlie Simons #2 20. David Kernn #78 21. Corey Lawrence #6 Now, let's have a little fun and analyze these races. Sportsman of the week: When Russ Ellis, who usually drives 07, had car trouble, Shannon Marano (6) stepped in and let Ellis drive his car. Keep in mind, Marano isn't driving for points like Ellis is. However, it's nice to see sportsman like gestures to keep someone alive in the points race. Performance of the week: To be honest, all of our winners were very impressive this week. I had a hard time picking this one. I am going to give this award to George Dickson (Ucar 19). He won his race flag to flag. In the first 3 races of the season, he had a fast car and ended up with mechanical failures. Congratulations to Dickson (19) on the turn around. Honorable mention goes to Roy Hendrick ( LMS 39) for the same reasons. Tough Luck Late Model Sportsman: J B Poates (88) was involved in several cautions and this landed him the award. Honorable mention would go to Bugs Hairfield (04) who went from leading the race to a DNF. Tough Luck Street Stock: For such a clean race, this was hard to call. I think I would almost have to go with Mike Ganoe (82) who had been dominate and a late spin kept him from winning this race and remaining the only winning driver for this division. Tough Luck Ucar: This race was very clean and green too so it was a little bit harder to call. However, I think that early caution for Daniel Thomas (99) may have slowed his momentum to the front and would lean in that direction since he has been very competitive every week. Whispers in the pits: I was glad to have more information on former Legends champion Cameron Patrick. I was informed by one source he is driving the same car Mike Rudy piloted to a runner up position in last year's modified season. There is talk of the Legends returning to Southside Speedway if there is enough fan interest shown. Let me start by putting my name on record and saying, I would love to see the Legends cars return. I think the track made a huge mistake when the eliminated that division from the schedule. Lindsay Bryant (81 Ucar) is also running a pro six car at Langley Speedway. Former modified competitor A J Winstead (99) is leading the points in the Rolling Thunder Modified Tour. Other familiar names would include Aubrey Thurston (21) who is currently 3rd in points, Billy Morris (running 55 on tour), Chris Hoylman (42), Irvin Bell (11), Allen Marshall (17), David Kendall (3 on tour) and Michael Johnson (38). A Southside Speedway fan would have plenty to cheer for if they were to catch this tour. Thoughts on season so far: The Late Model Sportsman division has truly been a legends resurgence. Local legends Roy Hendrick (39), Shane Lockhart (11) and Eddie Johnson (59) have all posted wins. Wayne Patterson (16) came back this year as well after a long absence. Thomas Stinson (4) appears to be the class of the field in modifieds this year again. He is currenly running for his 5th consecutive championship. Imagine this, a half a decade of dominance in one division. However, I see Chris Johnson (36) and Kyle Wood (19) being in the battle for points come September. Grand Stock will be a very close points race. A&M Motorsports and Chris Hott (01) have not been as dominate despite leading. Daniel Shelton (27) and Jamie Neely (77) have been consistently fast each week. Those two may be the cars to watch this year. Hott (01) right now is still the car to beat. Keep in mind, A&M Motorsports has had champions the last 5 years and spread over 3 drivers. Other than Stinson's team in modifieds, they are the most consistent race team at Southside. Ucar continues to have what may be the biggest historical story for the track. Do we have a woman like Lindsay Bryant (81) or Lauren Edgerton (24) be the first female track champion or does the rookie Renna Marchetti IV take the trophy. Either way it's a big historical moment. As far as I know, we haven't had a woman as champion or a rookie in any division. Looking ahead: Racing will return to Southside Speedway next Friday night. The action will include twin 50's for modifieds, Ucars, Grandstock and an appearance by MACKA. Personally, I wish they would have modifieds run a full 100 laps too but the season isn't over yet. Thank you again for joining me and taking time to let me tell you a story. As always, my thank you goes out to the drivers without whom, I wouldn't have a story to tell each week. I have grown to appreciate all of them over time as they go out of their way to put on a show for the fans each week. Till next time, this is Larry Starstruck saying, I will see you at the races. *Larry Starstruck*
