This is one of the first photos Lee Trout took to document her husband&8217s project. Tubing lengths, including some pre-bent pieces, provide the starting point to a safe framework.

The Speedway Motors assembly manual proved to be a very valuable resource.

This is the donor car. Found on a curb nearby, the owner was persuaded to part with it for less than a nominal fee. Trout put it to good use.

A problem: Mating the Impala frame to the Speedway Motors kit&8217s rear clip required an offset plate. The kit was intended for a Chevelle chassis, instead of an Impala. Kevin Larkins at Speedway Motors spent all the time necessary via telephone to explain how to make the proper fit.

James Trout tries out the new seat. Notice the layback necessary to keep his head inside the cage. He had made the cage too low for his 6-foot-2 body.

Fresh from ICA Powder Coating, the chassis now awaits reassembly. All the mechanical pieces need to be fitted before powder coating, but they must be taken off before the frame can be powder coated. Having to weld another bracket could have a detrimental effect on the job if not done properly.

Southwest Engines built the claimer motor for Trout. They have built engines that are successful in that region. Trout started with a borrowed alcohol carburetor that had been modified, but he found his fuel consumption was cut by one-third when he switched to a C & S carburetor.

Performance Bodies wrapped the framework. There&8217s a pile of decals on the floor that had been included in purchases. Multiple stickers are necessary because, when panels are replaced after accidents, the stickers also need to be replaced.

The proud parents of an IMCA Modified. Lee and James Trout are holding a plaque that was presented to the car’s sponsor, Therapy Alternatives. The sponsorship came about after James needed treatment for a back injury.
