At first it would seem proper to weld a reinforcement plate on the bottom of the sheetmetal trailing arms. This is a bad idea. The trailing arm is designed to twist as the suspension goes through its motions. Strengthening this way only serves to bind the suspension. By the way, I only tack welded the plate to the trailing arm so I could remove it after I took this photo. View Related Article
