On August 13, 1950, Glenn "Fireball" Roberts, a 21-year-old native of Daytona Beach, Florida, wins his first NASCAR Grand National race, in just his third start, at a one-mile dirt track in Hillsboro, North Carolina.

"Drivers had talked of 'drafting' on the Daytona track for a couple of years, but none of them were really sure just how this mysterious force, created by the air from a car in front of another, actually worked. ...
